| Unique qualities of the School: |
The MMA Islamic School, Jackson Mississippi, is affiliated with Mississippi Muslim Association (MMA). The School extends equal treatment and access of services to all and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, national origin, medhab, or religion.
Enrollment is open to all children from ages 3 to 16. The School’s staff works on volunteering basis exclusively. At the School, we strive to prepare each generation of students with knowledge, wisdom, character, and life skills, using the best and most effective methods and tools through the Islamic vision as it exists in the Quran and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Also, we strive to provide our children with an Islamic environment where they can be comfortable and learn the meaning of being a good Muslim. Role models among parents, teachers, and the School Committee help foster this important environment throughout the school year. Hence, the school prides itself on the caring and family-like atmosphere while promoting community values. For instance, the School hours during the Ramadan were changed in order for students, parents, school administration, and community members to get together and have iftar at the masjid. Ramadan series lectures (for older students, parents, and community members) and story/craft time (for our little ones) were offered. Further, during the school hours, brothers usually play volleyball on the school/masjid property.
Subsequently, we strive to offer opportunities for the educational and social development of our students while focusing on their spiritual needs. Hence, we offer extracurricular activities such as, Newsletter group (made by students), Islamic Artwork group (students exhibit/sell their work at the scheduled community/school gatherings), and Nasheed group (students perform at the scheduled community/school gatherings). Also, there are two contest for students - Annual Essay Contest and Annual Qur’an (Recitation) Contest. The purpose of the extracurricular activities is to flourish knowledge about Islam through language of arts |
